From private educational institutions which include St. Mary’s Catholic School, Fort Scott Christian Heights, Christian Learning Center, and Saint Martins Academy. Higher Education

Fort-Scott-Community-CollegeAlong with these amazing elementary and secondary school options we have amazing higher education opportunities as well, starting with our very own Fort Scott Community College. With access to several areas of study for a two-year associates degree there is also access to several technical degrees which include nursing, welding, construction trades, Farm and Ranch Management, and home to the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Tech certificate course. Along with Fort Scott Community College there are also several other community colleges within a one-hour drive that provide more non-traditional courses. Bourbon County’s location just south of the Kansas City Metro area and North of the Joplin micro-metro area also gives us access to several four-year universities both in Kansas and Missouri. These schools bring culture and diversity, connecting hundreds of bright, talented graduates with area employers every year. Pitt State University in Pittsburg Kansas, Missouri Southern State University located in Joplin, and the University of Missouri Kansas City and Rockhurst University both located in downtown Kansas City are a few that are within a one-hour drive from Bourbon County. Outside the one-hour drive you will find many more opportunities including the University of Kansas, Kansas State University, and Baker University.
